The philosophy that “life’s an adventure!” has taken Mrs. Van Tassell and her family around the country. Born and raised in Southern California, Mrs. VT moved to Utah to attend BYU after receiving her B.A. in psychology from UCLA. At BYU she completed the required work for her teaching license in elementary and special education. Gifted & talented classes, English-as-a-Second-Language classes, and instructional technology classes were taken through USU and Weber. She has taught all grades, from kindergarten to seniors in high school, and at Summit Academy is again getting to teach her favorite – 6th grade.
Life’s adventures have taken the Van Tassell family to Idaho for four years, to Hawaii for three years, to a farm/ranch in the Uintah Basin for 13 years, and to Key West for two years (ask her about submarine tourist business sometime). Mrs. VT and her husband currently live in Lehi – right on the wetlands.
Mrs. Van Tassell has been married 35 years and has four children – two boys and two girls. She also has ten adorable grandchildren - five boys and five girls. The tie will be broken in April when grandchild #11 is born.
Reading has always been a totally immersing activity for Mrs. Van Tassell. She loves almost every genre of literature, and if she was involved in a good book her family might not get full meals or clean clothes! In addition to learning how to read, Mrs. VT wants her students to want to LOVE to read! Even though she loves to read, her favorite subject in school was math; in fact, she started her college career as a math major! Traveling anywhere is one of Mrs. VT’s favorite activities. She hopes her students will thoroughly enjoy their 6th grade journey this year at Summit Academy.
