January Events

We are ready to start a brand new quarter! There are a lot of changes happening but I am excited that we can have a fresh start as we begin our new year!
Character Ed. - Our character strength for the month is Leadership. This is the website that Mr. Snyder has created to help with Character Ed. It has some great resources and videos.
Recess – As it begins to get colder outside, please remind your students to bring warm clothing to use outside. We go outside any day we can. If your student needs to stay in because of air conditions or sickness, please send me an email or note so that I can make sure they stay inside.
Writing Contest - The theme for this year is In the Year... The due date is January 16th. The length limit is 1,500 words. The two categories are Poetry and Prose. Prose includes any type of writing that is not poetry.
Literacy Night - Our Literacy Night is on January 30th. It will start at 6:30 p.m. More details will come the closer it gets. This will be the night that Writing Contest awards are presented.
At School Field Trips - We have 3 field trips that are coming to our school in the month of January. We will have a Wetland presentation from the Loveland Aquarium on January 7th. The Mosquito Abatement District will be coming on January 18th to help us learn more about mosquito prevention. The Natural History Museum of Utah will be coming on January 29th to teach us more about fossils that have been found in Utah. Each of these presentations will be during school.
Spelling Bee - A word list will be coming home soon as well as the dates for the classroom, grade, and final rounds.

Just a reminder our Halloween Party is on Wednesday starting at 1:30. Your student may wear their costume but please check the guidelines Mrs. Cutler sent out today in regards to that.
We are into our 2nd quarter! Please make sure you are regularly checking Aspire. Here are a few of the important dates and events happening through November. The monthly calendar has also been put on my website if you don't get a copy of it home on Thursday.
Our Character Strength of the month is Forgiveness
Recess – As it begins to get colder outside, please remind your students to bring warm clothing to use outside. We go outside any day we can. If your student needs to stay in because of air conditions or sickness, please send me an email or note so that I can make sure they stay inside.
We are also having some issues at recess with kind language as an entire grade. Please remind your student of the importance of using kind language. We did an object lesson a few weeks ago with tooth paste and explaining that what we say cannot be taken back.
No School – Friday, November 9th for a Teacher Development Day
Brighten the World – More details will follow in the coming weekly reminders. Our kick-off assembly will be on Monday, November 5th.
Thanksgiving Break – November 21st – 23rd
Writing Contest – More details to follow in the weekly reminders. It begins November 26th and goes until January 7th.
Christkindlmarkt Field Trip – Wednesday, November 28th: We will be riding the bus to This is the Place Heritage Park. We will arrive at 10:00 and have a presentation about German Traditions around Christmas time. They will also learn the German Polka for our 4th Grade Program. If you are able to donate $3-5 to help with the $3 cost of the field trip it would be greatly appreciated! You can send that in with your student in an envelope with their name on it.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

Jensen Calendar October 2018

Hello Parents!

It was great to meet with each of you for Parent Teacher Conferences this past week! Thank you for taking the time to come in. It was so helpful to sit down with each one of you and talk about ways to help your child. I wanted to make you aware of a few things that are coming up this month.

Science-Weather: This month for science we are learning about Weather. Your student hopefully brought home a weather calendar that they should be recording their weather observations on. If they did not, one is posted on my website. They just need to record how it feels and what they see. We are recording the actual temperature, humidity, air pressure, and wind each day here at school. They learned to identify clouds yesterday and were really excited today to tell me about the cumulonimbus and stratonimbus clouds they saw.

History - How Geography Affects Us: We are still continuing to learn about Geography and how it has affected where people chose to live.

Character Ed: Our character strength this month is Humor. I am really excited about this particular character strength because we are really focusing on appropriate times to use that character strength.  Something that Mrs. Cutler shared with the students today is that your laugh can tell a lot about you.

End of Quarter 1: The end of our first quarter is fast approaching! All assignments/retakes need to be handed in before October 17th. Please check your child's Aspire account to see their progress. Email me or their other teachers if you have any questions.

Fall Break: Fall Break will be October 18th-19th with an early release day on the 17th.

Red Ribbon Week: Our Red Ribbon Week will be October 22nd- 26th. More details will come as it gets closer.

Picture Retake Day: Picture Retake day will be on October 24th.

Halloween: Our Halloween party is on October 31st. Your child is allowed to wear their costume, but we ask that they don't have on excessive make-up, face paint, or a mask. Weapons, even if they go with their costume and are fake, are not allowed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Jensen Calendar September 2018

It is so hard to believe that we are already two weeks into school! Thank you for all the supplies that were sent in for our classroom this year. I appreciate the generosity of each of you! Your student has been put into their Math and Language Arts classes. Those classes are updated on your student’s Aspire SIS account. Please let me know if you have any questions about those classes.

I am still missing a few responses to this form to help give me more information about your student. The link is Thank you to those who have already taken the time to fill that out for me. The presentation link for the information shared at Parent Information Night is:

Fall Fest: Our annual Fall Fest Fundraiser will be held September 21st, 2018 from 5:30-8:30. Fall Fest is always such a fun night! Our SPO is working hard to get everything set up for that event. More information will come in the Weekly Email from the Office.

Class Website: My class website is up and running. You can find that at under Academics then Class Webpages.

Science: Our science unit for the next few weeks will be Water Cycle. Be sure to ask your student what evaporation, condensation, and precipitation are throughout the month.

History: We are learning about the Geography of Utah currently. An activity that really helps them see the different features is to ask them what they see out their window. They can use the different landforms we are learning about to help them describe what they see.

Parent Teacher Conferences: September 26-27th will be Parent Teacher Conferences. You will sign up with me as the homeroom teacher. I will have information from your student’s other teachers.

We won’t have school on Friday, September 28th because of Professional Development for the Teachers.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I try to get to emails within 24 hours of you sending them. You can also join my class on Remind by texting @jenshome18 to 81010.
