Chapter 9 Project - In chapter 9 students are learning to create scatter plots from given data, estimate the line of best fit, write the equation for the line of fit, interpret the slope and y-intercept, and how to find the correlation coefficient by hand. You can imagine how much they loved this part. After tallying several columns of data, one student observed, "I'll bet they have a button on the calculator that does this for you." How true that statement was, however, when they push that button, I'd like them to understand exactly what is happening behind the scenes. I also wanted them understand just how important each number is. There are times when attention to detail is paramount.
Chapter 7 project - Pythagorean theorem
In chapter 4 students learn how to graph linear equations. This mural was composed using their "stained glass" projects which were created by graphing 12 lines using the slope intercept method.
Students solved equations to unlock clues which finally led to the key that opened the treasure chest.... sweet success!
Awesome teamwork from my 8th graders working on our Math Escape Room! (No locked doors, just math puzzles :) )
