About me

Hallo! Ich heiße Frau Schmidt. I am thrilled to be your third grade German DLI teacher. I have been teaching German for 13 years at the elementary, secondary and university levels.

I began learning German in high school and never stopped. After completing a BA in German, I worked as an international flight attendant for Delta Air Lines, flying to cities like Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Munich. I was then a stay at home mom where my 4 children became my first German students. Each of them studied abroad in Germany as teenagers just like I had studied at the Christian-Albrechts University in Kiel. Currently 3 of them are living, studying and working in Europe.

When I’m not teaching German, I can be found working on my PhD in Linguistics as I recently completed my Masters. Otherwise  you can find me hiking, biking or running in the beautiful Utah mountains from which I hail. I have run 12 marathons (the latest being the 2019 NYC marathon), countless half marathons (including two in Europe!), a couple of triathlons (after shaving my head when my mom got breast cancer) and even a century ride (in the LaSalle mountains of southern Utah)! I have lived on both coasts and in the Midwest, but there’s no place like home!
